Omar Ashour

United KingdomProfessor Omar Ashour is the Founding Director of the Critical Security Studies Program at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies and the Strategic Studies Unit in the Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies. He is the author of The De-Radicalization of Jihadists: Transforming Armed Islamist Movements (2009) and How ISIS Fights: Military Tactics in Iraq, Syria, Libya and Egypt (forthcoming in 2020). Professor Ashour previously taught at the University of Exeter, UK (2008-2018) and at McGill University, Canada (2006-2008). He served as a Senior Consultant for the UN (2009-2013; 2015-2016). He served at the Brookings Institution (2010-2015) and at the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London (2015-2016). Professor Ashour obtained his doctorate degree in Political Science from McGill University and is a regular contributor to Arabic and Western media outlets.
